Flashcards

This week in the Music Teacher's Blog I came across a YouTube video of a teacher using flashcards in a small Suzuki theory class. I really like to see ideas and strategies being used by teachers in real classrooms. I find it much more effective for me to actually see strategies in effect rather than simply reading about how they should be implemented. I think that teachers can and should learn from each other, and YouTube is one way for us to do so.

  1. If you haven't run across it, TeacherTube is like YouTube, but oriented specifically toward education.

  2. As a teacher, I tell students to learn world capitals by going over them many times. Now, I also made these flashcards for them to try and learn them easier. Its quite simple to create these flashcards even for a technology newbie like me!

  3. I agree that it is excellent to be able to see actual teachers in actual classrooms. This is an extremely beneficial way to learn about teaching. What better way to gain information than seeing it in practice. It is extremely valuable to see an actual lesson, in addition to just hearing about a lesson. In addition, I agree that YouTube is a great way to discover information that can be pertinent to education. You can find nearly anything on YouTube and when you find quality resources, they can be extremely beneficial in the music education setting.

  4. I am convinced that you can find anything on YouTube. It may seem funny, but it is actually a very good resource for students to find authentic examples of what they might need for a class or a project.
